Joint PTA Meeting on Monday, January 8th

Cookies! We asked, and your answer was sweet!

Your generosity was so very apparent yesterday as the donations came pouring in for the EMS Staff Appreciation Cookie Extravaganza.  There was an amazing variety and we were able to cover the entire conference table in the staff lounge  as you can see below. The staff was amazed and they asked that we send a huge THANK YOU back to the community.  So THANKS to all our bakers and buyers for making this week extra sweet for the EMS Staff.

Special thanks to Kim Luciano and Sachiko Nanaumi for volunteering for set-up and cookie running and to Jean De Cairano and Sharon Renzo for cookie running.

Thanks to all the families who donated!

Help Fund Our School Programs by signing up with Amazon Smile and Stop and Shop A+

So far this year, the PTA has been able to fund

  • a Welcome Back Breakfast for our school staff
  • pizza for the 7th grade movie night, and
  • 6th grade all day visit with author Gordon Korman

Funding these events takes $$$ so we are looking to sign-up for the programs described in this email as another way to generate funds.  Sign-up takes only minutes so please sign up to help EMS PTA continue to support our school programs and events.

Did you know there are two ways to help raise funds for our school by just shopping?

Now a portion of proceeds from purchases made at Stop and Shop A+ Program  and Amazon Smile can be donated to our school if you sign up!

If you have any questions email

Thanks for your help in funding our school programs!

Photo Day This Wednesday (A-L) and Thursday (M-Z).

Please be advised that Photo Day is Wednesday, October 4th for students with last names beginning with A-L and Thursday, October 5th for students with last names beginning with M-Z.  Their photos will be taken during their lunch periods. Order forms have already been sent home, via backpack.

I am pleased to inform you that EMS is again using Irvin Simon.   Please be advised if you have more than two children attending Waverly, Anne Hutchinson, Greenvale or EMS, you are to pay for the first two packages.  Photo packages for your remaining children will be free.  Please mark “FP” in the amount boxes of those order forms.  (i.e. if you have 3 or more children- only pay for 2).

In the event that you are unhappy with your child’s photos or your child is absent on October 4th or 5th, Photo Retake Day is November 16th.  Please be sure to return the entire photo package on that day in order for your child to sit for a new photo.

Welcome to New and Returning Families and EMS Staff

PTA Logo

On behalf of the EMS PTA Board we extend a warm welcome to new and returning EMS families and to the EMS Staff. Hope you all had a restful summer. Middle school can be a big transition for students and families and it is as well for the PTA. In middle school, the PTA remains focused on community, but concentrates efforts around student advocacy, student/parent education programs, and staff appreciation. This year the PTA will focus on continuing to build links to the community and you will see us hosting events which focus more on community building than fundraising. We are planning to partner with EMS staff to continue to build an emphasis on reading in the community. The PTA is also looking for opportunities to support community service efforts. Finally, we hope to help coordinate and communicate advocacy for school funding at the state and local government levels. As pressure is put on state and local community budgets it is critical that the PTA focus on education funding.

The drive for PTA MEMBERSHIP starts now and will continue through October. The two most critical goals of membership are to:

  1.  identify volunteers who can help us carry out all of the programs that support our students, and
  2. raise funds to do the same.

This year we are again using a direct donation strategy rather than selling gift wrap, candy, books, etc. EMS PTA funds are used to support grade specific events, Field Day, International Night, Student and Parent Orientations, and Staff Appreciation. In addition, the PTA works with EMS Staff to purchase items needed for the school. Last year the PTA was able to purchase 60 Chrome Books for our school. We could not have done this without your support! Please consider MEMBERSHIP IN PTA and making a direct donation.

We also encourage everyone to be a part of your student’s school experience by VOLUNTEERING and/or participating in programs. We have many opportunities that involve very small time commitments and we have tasks that can be done remotely without ever having to be at the school. Just let us know how you’d like to be involved and we will find something that works within your schedule. Becoming a PTA member and an active volunteer is one of the most important steps families can take to support students. We look forward to working with you this year!

Kind Regards,
Renee Howell and Gina Scaglione
PTA Co-Presidents
