Welcome to New and Returning Families and EMS Staff

PTA Logo

On behalf of the EMS PTA Board we extend a warm welcome to new and returning EMS families and to the EMS Staff. Hope you all had a restful summer. Middle school can be a big transition for students and families and it is as well for the PTA. In middle school, the PTA remains focused on community, but concentrates efforts around student advocacy, student/parent education programs, and staff appreciation. This year the PTA will focus on continuing to build links to the community and you will see us hosting events which focus more on community building than fundraising. We are planning to partner with EMS staff to continue to build an emphasis on reading in the community. The PTA is also looking for opportunities to support community service efforts. Finally, we hope to help coordinate and communicate advocacy for school funding at the state and local government levels. As pressure is put on state and local community budgets it is critical that the PTA focus on education funding.

The drive for PTA MEMBERSHIP starts now and will continue through October. The two most critical goals of membership are to:

  1.  identify volunteers who can help us carry out all of the programs that support our students, and
  2. raise funds to do the same.

This year we are again using a direct donation strategy rather than selling gift wrap, candy, books, etc. EMS PTA funds are used to support grade specific events, Field Day, International Night, Student and Parent Orientations, and Staff Appreciation. In addition, the PTA works with EMS Staff to purchase items needed for the school. Last year the PTA was able to purchase 60 Chrome Books for our school. We could not have done this without your support! Please consider MEMBERSHIP IN PTA and making a direct donation.

We also encourage everyone to be a part of your student’s school experience by VOLUNTEERING and/or participating in programs. We have many opportunities that involve very small time commitments and we have tasks that can be done remotely without ever having to be at the school. Just let us know how you’d like to be involved and we will find something that works within your schedule. Becoming a PTA member and an active volunteer is one of the most important steps families can take to support students. We look forward to working with you this year!

Kind Regards,
Renee Howell and Gina Scaglione

The EMS PTA greatly appreciated the MANY generous families who donated cultural dishes  toward our 4th Annual International Night. It was a festive “Sakura” themed evening of fun cultural diversity among our student  performances and community! A great evening was had by all.

Special thanks to the following people for all their help that evening:

Denise Calabro, Angela Poli, Donna Constantino, Elsa Sanchez, Hilario Ramos, Nina Rodriquez, Maggie Raccioppo, Lilly Schulz, Gina Scaglione, Doreen Cheung, Chiaki Umemoto, Yuko Tanabe, Makiko Yoshimoto, Tomoe Imamura,  Mrs. Astarita, Mrs. Leptak, Mrs. Logan, Mrs. Shay, Mr. Dodge, EMS Jazz Band, PTA,  JPA, and  Custodial staff.

We are pleased to announce that the EMS PTA general membership approved a gift of two classroom sets of Chromebooks to the Eastchester Middle School at our May 15th meeting.

Valued at approximately $18,500, this gift will enable the Middle School to purchase 60 new Chromebooks for use by our faculty and students to enhance the curriculum and learning experience of our children.

In case you are not familiar with these devices, a Chromebook is a laptop running the Linux-based Chrome OS as its operating system. Chromebooks are used in ELA, Social Studies and Science classrooms, enabling a more interactive and collaborative way for students to learn. Unlike a text book, a Chromebook never goes out-of-date and seamlessly edits, changes and highlights information. Josh Elder, our Assistant Principal, shared that teachers are eager to implement Chromebooks into their classrooms and see that students are more engaged in completing assignments when the work is done via the Chromebook. Given the additional 60 devices, they are closer to their goal of each team having a set of Chromebooks to share.

The gift was made possible by the generous support of our EMS PTA community, with funds from our “Armchair Fundraiser” and other fundraising activities throughout the school year.  We would like to thank all members of our school community – parents, administrators, teachers, and students – who supported our programs and fundraising efforts this year.  Your generosity, hard work and time commitment made this wonderful gift possible.

We have been honored to serve this year with such a dedicated board.

B&N Book Fair A Great Success!

EMS PTA would like to extend our gratitude to Dr. Moran, Mr. Wynne and Mr. Elder for their support to have our first Barnes & Noble Book Fair.  This event was so successful because of the continuous effort and endless enthusiasm of Mrs. Debra Barrett. We are truly thankful!!  A special thank you to Mr. Mark Dodge for making it possible to have our jazz band perform and to the very talented EMS Jazz Band. They sounded amazing!!  Our gratitude to the Eastchester Teachers Association for their generous donation of $100.00 to purchase the lotto tickets and to Claire DeLongchamp for her presentation of the lotto board. It looked incredible!!  B&N gift cards were given from the PTA to our poetry winners. Congratulations!! Your poems were inspiring and well written!  We appreciate the eighth grade National Junior Honor Society students for reading to all the young children enabling adults to shop.

Thank you to EMS Parents/Guardians for attending the EMS PTA Book Fair at Barnes and Noble. It is because of your support it was so successful!!

Finally, a great big thank you to parent volunteers, student volunteers and to the EMS PTA Board who happily gave so much of their time, their cars to transport instruments and anything else that needed to be done to make this first EMS PTA Book Fair at Barnes & Noble a huge success!!!
